Sprint is laying off more than 800 people, according to a filing with the Kansas Department of Commerce.

The Overland Park-based company said all 829 workers that are affected by the layoffs have been notified at this time.

The layoffs come as Sprint implements multi-billion dollar cost-cutting measures.

"When you look at our business model right now, our costs are just way too high, and we haven't made a profit in about a decade," said David Tovar, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Sprint.

The company will release its financial results for the third fiscal quarter of 2015 on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016.

"We are trying to reduce our overall cost structure while we improve our network, and when we improve our network, which we have been doing a great job over the last year, more customers will come to Sprint and that's the trend we are starting to see now," said Tovar.

A Sprint representative gave 41 Action News the following statement:

The WARN continuation notice filed in Overland Park, Kan. reflects workforce reductions (829) from across the organization. It covers notification requirements for reductions in the past 90 days and continues our compliance with WARN.

I will also say that Sprint is in the middle of a multi-year turnaround strategy. We are radically transforming how we do business and are laser-focused on creating a superior network, being the price leader in the wireless industry and providing a positive customer experience. We are making progress and our business is heading in the right direction.

However, in order to be successful, we must change our cost structure and reallocate our resources so we can fuel our growth and operate more efficiently. We are in the process of significantly taking costs out of the business so the transformation of the company will be sustainable for the long-term. We are leaving no stone unturned as we work to eliminate up to $2.5 billion of costs from our business. Unfortunately, as we've said over the past several months, the effort to reduce our costs would impact all areas of our business, including jobs.

Job reductions are never an easy thing to do and we don't make these decisions lightly. We value and support our employees and are committed to assisting them through this transition with separation benefits and outplacement services. We believe the steps we are taking to transform our business will help us deliver an even stronger customer experience and help build a sustainable business for the foreseeable future.
