A former Kansas City, Missouri, police officer will spend 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to harassment in the arrest of a suspected armed robber.
Shannon Hansen, 46, pleaded guilty Friday and surrendered to authorities on Monday.
The incident occurred May 2, 2014, after an armed robbery at 4200 Independence Ave. in Kansas City.
A court document states police dash camera video from Hansen's patrol car shows Hansen bumping the suspect with his car. The dash cam video also shows Hansen punching the suspect, Manuel Palacio, in the chest.
Hansen is also seen on the dash camera video with his knee in Palacio's back.
He also tells Palacio he "will not only get an a** whooping from us, but you're getting it from him,'' the court documents state.
Hansen also told Palacio he hopes the robbery victim's family comes to Palacio's house and beats him with a baseball bat.
Hansen resigned from the department in July 2015.
He must perform 100 hours of community service and can't work in any law enforcement capacity.
"As peace officers and public servants, we have a responsibility to always act with integrity and conduct ourselves in a professional manner, no matter the circumstances'' said KCPD Chief Darryl Forte in a statement released Monday. "Police face incredibly difficult situations every day, but we are held to a high standard of service by both the community and each other.
Palacio is suing Hansen and two other officers in Jackson County Civil Court. Trial in that case is set for late November.
