A Kansas City man has been charged after he allegedly dropped an old TV over a third-floor balcony onto a victim, causing life-threatening injuries.

Otishus Kirkwood, 36, is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

According to court records, police were sent to the 500 block of Benton Boulevard on Thursday on an aggravated assault. When officers arrived, they found the victim unconscious in the front yard with obvious head injuries. Next to the victim was a partially broken television. The victim was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Court documents say a witness contacted police and said Kirkwood had thrown a large television off the third story balcony, striking the victim in the head.

The witness said he and the victim went to the area to visit someone. After they arrived, Kirkwood came out onto the balcony of an apartment and began yelling at them, saying they couldn’t come in. According to court documents, Kirkwood then threw a large TV off the balcony, which hit the victim and knocked her out.

Prosecutors requested a bond of $75,000 cash.
