Take a drive through the Crossroads and you’ll see the iconic moment painted on Commercial Industrial Supply located on 1739 Oak St. - Alex Gordon’s ninth inning, game-tying homerun against the Mets in Game 1 of the World Series.
The new mural is being pained by Jason Harrington withRif Raf Giraffe.
The previous painting had the Royals logo with the recent American League Championships. After winning the World Series, the painting needed updating.
Instead of a simple update, Harrington suggested an entirely new design, something he had planned to do if anyone approached him about doing a Royals design.
“Let’s do an actual scene from a game, like a moment. The moment for me was this moment,” he said.
Renter Ryan Coffey is very pleased with how the mural is looking. “We’re going to go ahead and put all the pennants of both the Royals and the Monarchs. This is a scene from the World Series, but we’re also going to preserve all of our baseball history.”
If you venture to the Crossroads often, you may notice familiar faces sitting in the stands of the mural.
Coffey said, “We’ve taken pictures of everybody in the neighborhood. We’re putting all of our faces and all of our neighbors’ faces on here. We’re putting the Marlins Man back here, too.”
Harrington hopes that the street art in Kansas City can become an international art scene.
“I want to put the best art out there possible and not just get paid for the gig but do it to make our city more beautiful," he said.
Weather permitting, the mural should be done this week.
