UPDATE 2/15/2017 12:30 P.M.: Inous Revels was the woman found dead in Brush Creek Monday, according to police and family members.

Officials say there were no signs of obvious foul play.

The cause of death is still under investigation by the medical examiner's office.

ORIGINAL STORY 2/13/2017:

Police are investigating after a dead body was found Monday afternoon in Brush Creek.

KCPD said fire crews pulled the body of a black woman out of the creek around noon across the street from Fire Station 35 along E. Emmanuel Cleaver II Blvd.

As officers and detectives briefed each other word of the discovery got to Inous Revels’s family.

“It took a body to wash up for us to think that maybe it's her or could it be her,” Debra Price, one of Revels’s relatives, said.

On Friday, Jan. 13, the 63-year-old woman left her house at 51st and Woodland, a mile away from Monday’s scene. No one has seen or heard from Revels since.

“She's not the type of person to go off and not say anything; that's not her,” Price said.

According to police, Revels had a stroke two years ago. She hasn’t driven on her own in more than two decades and doesn’t have a cellphone. It’s taken an emotional toll her family.

“Not knowing where your family member is, you tried to put on a façade that you're ok. You're ok sometimes but the rough times take over the good times,” Price said.

They’re seeking closure for themselves or another family.

“If this is not her and I'm praying for closure to whoever this is because it somebody's loved one--sister, mother. Someone loved this person like we love Inous,” Price said.

The woman recovered from the creek was taken to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s officer where the identification process will take place.
