The Centers for Disease Control is investigating a case of E.coli at a Kansas Chipotle restaurant.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says the case was a resident from Johnson County who visited the Chipotle at 11805 Shawnee Mission Parkway in Shawnee around Nov. 23.
Chipotle customer Sara Matthews says she loves the restaurant because she believes the food is fresher than other fast food options but she still has her concerns.
“It’s concerning,” she said. "Obviously, I don't want to eat somewhere that could potentially get me sick."
Former Kansas State University food safety professor and blogger Doug Powell said he’s been watching Chipotle’s practices since 2007.
“This is a company focused on marketing of what I call, ‘food porn.’ That is, it's easy on the eyes, not a lot of depth to it,” Powell explained. “What I've found in the past is that companies who focus so much on the adjectives and not pay as much attention as the things that make people barf."
Powell writes about food safety on his blog, barfblog.com.
KDHE is advising customers who visited the restaurant around that time and have symptoms associated with e-coli to first call their doctor.
Customers are also asked to report the incident online.
Four others people have been identified, one in North Dakota and three in Oklahoma, who say they ate at Chipotle the week before they got sick.
