KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Northbound I-35 at Mission Road is back open after a fiery crash involving a semi shut down the road for most of the day.
The road was shut down for both the morning and evening rush hours but was opened back at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The semi hit a barrier wall several times and caught fire just before midnight Wednesday night.
The report from the Kansas Highway Patrol said the driver reported hitting a brown bag in the roadway before he lost control and crashed.
First responders took the driver, a 51-year-old man from Oklahoma, to KU Medical Center for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening, according to an update from KHP.
A firefighter said the trailer contained butane and another more corrosive chemical which investigators were working to identify.
