Kansas City, Missouri police say that a man cycling in the Tour of Kansas City race has died.
KCPD spokesman Darrin Snapp says that the man struck a railing during the race and died from a head injury. His identity has not yet been released.
This is the 54th year the Tour of Kansas City has been held and organizers say it's the longest-running race west of the Mississippi. One race was held Saturday, June 24, starting on Cliff Drive in Kansas City, Missouri. Sunday's race took place in the Crossroads Art District.
Officials say more information about the cyclist will be released Monday.
