KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An 18-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle after a crash Wednesday afternoon on westbound Interstate 670 in KCK, officials said.
According to KCK Fire Department Assistant Chief Morris Letcher, a car went off the highway at the Interstate 70 split and ran into a bridge pillar.
The car was the only one involved in the crash, Letcher said.
Letcher said via Twitter that the driver was trapped in the vehicle after the crash and crews had to extricate the teenager.
Westbound I-670 was down to one lane during the crash. Shortly before 2 p.m., Letcher said drivers should avoid the area for the next 45 to 60 minutes.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
