KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fire heavily damaged a Blue Springs School District bus Friday afternoon.

The bus caught fire about 12:30 p.m. on the exit ramp from eastbound Interstate 70 to Adams Dairy Parkway, according to a district spokesperson.

Thick smoke could be seen rising near the busy interstate.

The district's buses were on the roads for a final check before schools open on Sept. 8.

No children were on the bus, and the driver escaped uninjured.

There is no word on what caused the fire.
