A fire at a storage facility just outside of Liberty, Missouri shut down a portion of Highway 69 Saturday night.
Piles of burned debris line the back edge of the Clay County storage facility Sunday morning.
A building alarm alerted firefighters to the fire just after 9 p.m. Saturday.
The fire impacted 9 of the 20 units in the facility.
Fire crews from both Liberty and Fishing River fire protection district worked to knock down the fire.
"Because of the size and location. We're out in rural Clay County there's no water or fire hydrants in this area that's close... so we had to haul water in and with the heat and humidity we bring extra people in to rotate out man power," said Gene Walker, Fishing River Fire Protection District Fire Chief.
In order for crews to be certain the fire was out inside the units, they had to clear out most of the items inside… quite a bit of property was damaged.
“Some of them were just slammed full from front to back. They look like they are 10 by 10 units and some are just crammed full,” said Walker.
A few people stopped by to check on their units Sunday, but they didn’t want to go on camera.
The fire is still under investigation, how it started and where is still unknown.
