KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Fire Department is investigating a fire that broke out at Calvary Temple Baptist Church near 30th and Holmes around 2 a.m. Tuesday.
The fire was contained to the church’s education center. Pastor Eric Williams said, “It’s going to be a major, major loss. Surprisingly, the soot and the everything from the actual fire went up to the worship center.”
The church had to be ventilated because some of the smoke from the education center was getting inside the church. “Imagine going into a place that you’ve been a part of for decades and now it’s basically gone. It takes a toll on your heart," Williams said.
The bomb and arson squad were also on scene to investigate what happened.
There was supposed to be a conference held in the center this upcoming weekend. Williams tells 41 Action News they’re moving it to Jameson Temple Church at Benton and Linwood. Sunday services will be held in the wellness center across the street from the church for now.
No one was injured in the fire. The cause is under investigation.
