The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is conducting a compliance sweep to make sure sex offenders stay away from kids on Halloween.
Under state statute, all registered sex offenders are required to avoid all Halloween activities involving kids.

They must stay inside their home from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., turn off outside lighting during those times and post a sign saying "No candy or treats at this residence."
Sheriff deputies will go to sex offenders' homes throughout the evening. Any offender found not complying could face a $1,000 fine or up to a year in prison.
