A Bucyrus, Kansas business may soon hold the Guinness World Record for growing the heaviest peach.

The peach, picked on August 24 at a Tubby Fruits Peach Orchard, weighed in at 763.39 grams or about two pounds.

The current world recordwas set back in 2002 with a 725 gram peach.

Two certified scientists from Johnson County K-State State Research and Extension in Olathe recently weighed the peach using a verified scale provided by the USDA.

The process was documented with both video and photos.

The ‘Lady Nancy’ peach, a late-season variety, also had to be eaten as proof that the fruit wasn’t altered to skew the results.

Once the documentation is submitted, it could take up to 12 weeks for Guinness World Records to review it and determine if the peach will win the world record title.

According to the news release, everyone was surprised at the taste for such a large fruit saying it was sweet, juicy, firm not mealy and with little fuzz.
