Kansas City inventors club finding success

Posted

Around a small steel table in a North Kansas City workshop, six friends share some laughs and ideas.

The group of inventors meets once a week. They call themselves the Steel Table Group.

"The first rule of Steel Table was check your ego at the door because we're going to tell you if the idea sucks," said inventor Rich Brull. "We're going to say it sucks."

But so far they're finding plenty of ideas that don't suck. They've designed 12 things so far. Some just for fun, others to market.

Their first product, known as the Deck Down, prevents things from blowing away.

"You can strap down grills, lawn furniture anything you want," said Brull.

It proved so successful, it turned their club into a business.

Now they've moved on to the Garden Thorn. The small device attaches to any garden hose and delivers water straight to the root of the plant.

Conserving a lot of water in the process, the Steel Table Group hopes it's their next big success.

The next big idea that came from this small club.

"It's absolute bliss," said inventor Stan Frenald of the club. "I love it."
