KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, firefighters battled a two-alarm fire Friday afternoon at a building in the city's northeast area.
The fire broke out about 2:50 p.m. near Chestnut Avenue.
Crews arrived and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second and third floors of a 3-story building.
KCFD Chief Fire Marshal Jimmy Walker said about eight to 10 people were trying to get out when firefighters arrived.
Everyone was evacuated safely by fire crews and no injuries were reported.
Walker also said KCPD officers provided assistance in this incident.

Surrounding neighbors told KSHB 41 they heard a boom that sounded like a big metal plate falling before seeing flames from the back stairway.

It is unknown at this time how many people will be displaced.
