In vote of 7-2, the school board approved the $8 million master plan for the district.
The decision came down after months of public hearings.

Wendell Phillips Elementary is one of the schools that's closing. Some of the students will be attend Crispus Attucks Elementary at 2400 Prospect Ave.
Southwest Early College Campus in Brookside and Satchel Paige Elementary near 75th St. and US 71 will be closing.
School boundaries are also changing, which will impact about 15 percent of the district's 15,000 students. The district plans to compensate by increasing bus service to reduce the distances that students walk to school.
We want to create that neighborhood school concept so we want students to go to a school that's closest to their homes, We are putting children closest to their neighborhood school. Those are the children that would be moving.,” said KCPS Interim Superintendent Allan Tunis.
The plan has been in the works for nearly two and a half years.
