A 12-year-old from Pleasant Hill, Missouri, received a big surprise on Tuesday.

Hana Allen will go to Rio for the Olympic Games to participate in the Opening Ceremony as part of the McDonald’s Olympics Kids Program, according to a news release from the Trozzolo Communications Group.

The news release said McDonald’s is celebrating friendship by sending eight children from around the country to Rio for the Opening Ceremony. Hana was selected to be one of them.

She met her friend Darius Smith from Glenwood, New Jersey, when they were both at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Cincinnati. The news release said Hana’s doctors and nurses from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital helped surprise her via Skype.

According to the news release, McDonald’s has been sending kids to experience the Olympic Games since Beijing in 2008. Rio 2016 will be the first time McDonald’s is sending children to participate in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games.
