LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — Leavenworth police announced Saturday afternoon that the body of Brittany J. Fields had been found in the Missouri River.

Fields, 22, had the subject of a missing person search for approximately 30 hours after her vehicle was found unattended in the parking lot at Riverfront Campground near the boat ramp that leads to the Missouri River, according to the Leavenworth Police Department.

Her belongings were still in the car.

The Leavenworth Fire Department resumed searching the river at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Fields’ body was discovered by fishermen and recovered by Leavenworth police and fire shortly after noon approximately four miles south of the blue bridge near mile marker 392 in the Missouri River.

There is no reason to suspect foul play at this time, according to authorities, but an autopsy will be conducted Sunday to determine time of death.
