KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A local boy is doing odd jobs around Kansas City to help kids at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital this holiday season.

Ryder Clay, 11, is on a mission to raise $5,000 to buy toys for kids at the children’s hospital.

"I've been raking leaves or helping people vacuum their house," said Ryder. "Or just organizing their house so I can raise money so I can buy toys for the kids at St. Jude."

It’s not the first time he raised money to help others. For his birthday this year, he collected dozens of toys for kids in a hospital in Memphis.

"If I was in their shoes like if I had cancer, I would feel really sad," said Ryder. "But getting a toy would make my day. I just like to help people and see people have a good time."

Ryder doesn't only help out St. Jude, he volunteers with the Ronald McDonald House too.

For all his hard work through the years, he was even awarded Youth Philanthropist of the Year from the Association of Fundraising Professionals when he was only 7 years old.

Ryder says he hopes the community can help out in his cause.

"I'm just one kid," he said. "But if others are having a good time, I feel really good for them. I like to see smiles on kids' faces, not frowns."
