Olathe woman says she found maggots in Great Value sandwich bags, claims Walmart denied problem

A Olathe woman says she found maggots inside her Walmart Great Value plastic sandwich bags.

Elizabeth Wesson contacted 41 Action News after her discovery. She said the maggots had made webs in the top of the box and between the bags.

Wesson said she had purchased the bags from the Walmart store at 136th and Alden a week prior to finding the maggots. She had been packing her husband’s lunch in the sandwich bags.

Wesson said after finding the maggots, she contacted the Walmart she purchased the bags from and was directed to loss prevention.

Wesson said the employee in loss prevention asked her ‘What do you want?” after taking the box of bags back.

“It was very insulting. He took the bags and did not refund my money and now they are dropping the issue completely,” Wesson told 41 Action News.

Wesson says Walmart claims management called her a week later and told her the company that makes the bags had no reported maggots in their products, so Walmart would be closing the case.

Wesson said she plans to contact the health department and Walmart's corporate office.

41 Action News has contacted Wal-Mart's corporate office.  We will update this story when the company responds.
