Overland Park father finds home in flames after CityPlace fire spreads

While emergency calls were going out on dispatch, Troy Douglas got a call of his own.

The Overland Park husband and father of two says his wife called while he was at work to tell him the CityPlace apartments behind their home were on fire.

"I left work a little early to come make sure everything was alright and when I pulled up, this is what I saw," Douglas said.

Flames had spread on the side of his home.

"A fireman over there he said it looked like it got into the walls so they were trying to contain it so it doesn't spread anymore it looks like. Thankfully the whole house wasn't engulfed so I think there might be some stuff we may be able to get out of there," said Douglas

Douglas says his sister-in-law was watching the kids. The sirens startled his daughter, so they left the home before the fire spread there.

Douglas shared, "I'm just thankful right now. God's been good to us always and we're just blessed it didn't spread or get any worse."
