QuikTrip is not giving up its plan to expand its store on Westport Road between Roanoke Parkway and Mercier Street.
After objections from the West Plaza Neighborhood Association, the Kansas City planning commission rejected the proposed expansion.
QuikTrip is asking the neighborhood group to reopen negotiations to come up with a compromise proposal.
West Plaza Neighborhood Association president Julie Tanenbaum said the group will negotiate with QuikTrip in good faith. She said the group does not want streets closed to allow QuikTrip to expand.
The West Plaza Neighborhood Association launched a petition drive before the planning commission meeting, which in part convinced planning commission members to reject the existing QuikTrip expansion plan.
Now that neighbors and QuikTrip executives are in talks it could be several weeks before the matter is voted on by the city council.
