Record flooding destroys cars at south KC dealership

A record-breaking flash flood swept moving vehicles off the road and totaled many of the cars parked at the Volkswagen dealership at 103rd and State Line.

Caution tape marked the damaged area, and rescue crews spent hours getting people stranded in the area to safety.

Floodwaters began receding around 10 a.m., but remained deep enough to block several roadways and flood parking lots well into Thursday morning.

Management at the dealership told us all the flooded vehicles in the lot have been totaled.

The trunks of the cars are all popped open due to a safety mechanism.

Once the water goes down, the owners will be able to go in to assess and estimate the damage.
