A tractor trailer fire in Overland Park has multiple lanes of westbound I-435 shut down early Tuesday morning as crews worked to clear the debris.
KDOT and local fire crews responded to the scene near the Highway 69 interchange just before 3 a.m.
Overland Park police told us the driver hit a concrete barrier head on, and investigators think the truck's axle speared the gas tank, causing a small explosion.
The semi driver and one passenger were hospitalized, treated for minor injuries and released. Police said the driver's blood screening came back clean.
Traffic eastbound was mostly unaffected, but expect some delay if you're heading westbound through the area or merging on from Highway 69. Crews expect to reopen the roadway around 10 or 11 a.m.
A city engineer will be looking at the road surface to make sure there is no gouging or other damage.
