The Shawnee Mission Board of Education unanimously approved the resignation of Superintendent Jim Hinson effective in June on Monday.
At least two of the board members said they “regretfully” accepted the resignation, days after Hinson said he made his decision because he wanted to spend more time with family and pursue other goals.
Hinson did not attend Monday’s meeting and board president Sara Goodburn told 41 Action News she did not know of the reason.
During the open forum segment of the meeting, three parents asked board members to delay the search for a new superintendent until after school board elections in November.
Afterwards, the board held an executive closed-door session to plan a timeline for finding Hinson’s replacement.
The board plans to hold its next meeting with the public on May 22nd.
