KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A tractor-trailer fire shut down part of Interstate 35 in Olathe Thursday, and clean up lasted into the morning rush hour.
Olathe police said that just after 1 a.m., they responded to south bound I-35 at Old 56 Highway for a vehicle fire. The rear axle of a tractor trailer had caught on fire while traveling south on I-35.
Members of the Olathe Police Department and Olathe Fire Department responded to the scene. Olathe fire personnel were able to extinguish the fire without incident.
The worry right now is the water the Fire Dept used to put out the fire is freezing on the road. @OlatheFire is working with @KansasCityKDOT to get treatment on the ice/slickness. pic.twitter.com/w9bWCyjXry

The tanker was holding diesel, which was being offloaded and removed. The diesel was not involved in the fire.
The interstate reopened around 6 a.m.
