Washington University in St. Louis is buzzing with energy.

Students, staff, and St. Louis residents are looking forward to hearing what the candidates have to say Sunday.

"The leading question on my mind is what are you going to do to bring jobs back to this country?” resident Rudy Teilscher asked.

Resident Adia Wingfield hopes both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton address race relations.

“I think it is something the next president needs to be prepared to address and talk about, and in a way that is healthy for all communities," she said.

All voters we spoke with agreed, they want to come away feeling like they can trust the candidates with leading our country.

"A lot of this election cycle so far hasn't been very policy driven. It's been a lot of rhetoric and aggression, a lot of attacks in both directions, so I think to hear some substantive ideas both in terms of ideas and policies that would be really refreshing," said student Sam Klein.

Policies and plans will be discussed.

Trump is expected to address the video that surfaced showing him making extremely inappropriate remarks about women. Clinton is still focused on earning the trust of voters, after the scandals surrounding her emails and paid speeches.

Part of the debate will include real people asking their own questions. This makes it tougher for the candidates to deflect, or dance around the topic.

Many are hopeful it will force Trump and Clinton to focus on the issues, instead of each other.

“I feel like it’s a lot of wasted time, a lot of wasted money, let's just talk about how we’re going to fix what we need to fix," said resident Kelly Hartle.
