Woman, cat rescued from Overland Park apartment fire

Posted

Officials say a woman and her cat were rescued from an apartment fire in Overland Park Saturday.

The Overland Park Fire Department say they were called to the fire at Fiesta Square Apartments at 3:30 p.m. The woman and her cat were found on a second story balcony and rescued.

Fire crews put the fire out within minutes of arrival and it was contained to the apartment where it started.

Officials believe the fire began when a man left food on the stove but the incident is still under investigation. The man and the woman, who live in separate apartments, were both treated for smoke inhalation but neither was taken to the hospital.

No one was injured. Officials are investigating whether the units had working smoke alarms.
