The out-of-town owner of the Ramada at 1601 Universal Ave. abandoned the property sometime in the fall of 2016, according to the developer of the industrial park. Since then, looters have stripped the location and squatters have lived there despite police and city efforts to keep them out. Kansas City taxpayers will have to pay for the hotel to be torn down.
