An AMBER Alert has been canceled after two missing boys were found safe and the suspect was taken into custody.

At 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, the Ellis County Sheriff's Office responded to US 183 and Saline River Road on a reported aggravated assault.

When they arrived, the reporting person and biological mother said the biological father of her two children, Bryce McDowell of Plainville, intentionally forced her to stop on US 183 and drove into her vehicle to disable it.

She said McDowell removed the children from the backseat and drove away.

The sheriff's office said law enforcement was initially unable to find McDowell, which prompted a statewide AMBER Alert.

McDowell was located and taken into custody in Rooks County, Kansas, just west of Webster Lake. His two children were also taken into the state's custody without further incident and are safe.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this story had a photo of two children. According to KBI, the picture incorrectly identified one of the children as Cadenn McDowell.
