Two men have been charged, one in connection to KCK Police Capt. Robert Melton's death.

Jamaal Lewis, 20, has been charged with capital murder, aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm into an unoccupied dwelling in connection to Melton's death.

Daqon Sipple, 18, was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and criminal discharge of a firearm into an unoccupied dwelling in connection to the original call to police about a shooting. Authorities said Sipple was taken into custody before Melton was shot.

Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerry Gorman said a 9mm handgun was used in the drive-by shooting and a .40-caliber handgun was used to kill Melton.

Bond for Lewis is set at $10 million. Bond for Sipple is set at $100,000.

Prosecutors did not say if they plan to seek the death penalty for Lewis.

Authorities also said they are continuing to search for a third suspect.

Both Lewis and Sipple attended Washington Local High School, and both did not graduate.

Sipple's grandmother spoke with 41 Action News off camera on Wednesday. She said the teen did have legal problems, but mostly minor things like fights with other neighborhood kids. She expressed remorse for the loss of Melton.
