One person was killed in a house fire in Independence, Missouri, Wednesday morning.

Officials say the house fire broke out in the 12600 block of 34th Terrace. Police have confirmed an elderly woman was killed.

According to authorities, the woman was a smoker and none of her smoke alarms went off during the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
