Jackson Co. preparing people for Nov. election

and last updated

The Jackson County Election board sent out 11,350 transfer address reminders last week. So far, about 500 have been returned to them.

These could be people who need to update their information. If not, some of their people may think they're registered when in reality they may not be able to vote come November.

“If you've left eastern Jack and moved to Kansas City, you have to reregister, there are two election boards in Jackson County, and a lot of people don't realize that," said the Director Jackson County Election Board Tammy Brown.

You can update your address while voting if you are registered in the voting location. The catch is this will slow down lines when you go to vote.

Another reason for the wait is people not remembering their voter ID cards. This can be looked up by name, but with so many "Smiths" or "Browns," pegging down the right person can eat away at the clock.

“You type in just the voter ID number, you don't have to type in last name, first name, birth date, you don't have to search through addresses, you don’t have to search through, you know, 50 'Smiths,'" said Vote Safe Supervisor Sara Zorich.

Voter ID cards will be mailed out in Jackson County next week. Hang onto them until the election.
