Changes could be coming soon to Kansas ride regulations

Some major changes could be coming to amusement parks and rides across the state of Kansas after 10-year-old Caleb Schwab died last August at Schlitterbahn.

The committee on Federal and State Affairs in the Kansas House is currently discussing House Bill 2389, which has a goal of changing the rules for inspections on rides and who does them.

One of the biggest changes is that experienced engineers would have to inspect rides that cannot be inspected privately.

The change would impact not only permanent rides like the ones at Schlitterbahn, but also temporary rides that are set up for fairs and carnivals.

House Federal and State Affairs Committee Chairman John Barker is holding meetings on the bill Thursday and Friday.
