UPDATE 3/4/2017 11:30 A.M.: More than 20 cows are still on the loose after a trailer carrying 89 of the animals tipped over in Lenexa, Kansas Friday.
Volunteers are out on horseback looking for the animals. Anyone who spots one is encouraged to call the Lenexa Police Department.
ORIGINAL STORY 3/3/2017:
Cattle were on the loose in Lenexa, Kansas on Friday afternoon. Yes, you read that right.
This all happened after a rollover accident carrying the farmyard animals near the westbound K-10 ramp between I-435 and Ridgeview. That area was also closed off while police wrangled the cows. The driver of the semi is okay.
"You’re prepared for anything but when it comes to herding cattle, I mean I haven’t done it since I was a teenager, so it’s a little different,” said Master Patrol Officer Gary Ganiewski.
“Dear friends of ours have cattle farms, dairy farms, so spent the summers going there you know helping with them. I was on my way to go preview a home, saw the story, thought I would come help,” said Susan Johnson who stopped by the scene to help catch the cattle.
The steaks are high! As of 3:30 p.m., officials said 20 or so cattle are still on the loose. There were a 89 total.
