Two teenagers die after single-vehicle crash in Independence, Missouri

Two teenagers died after a single-vehicle crash in Independence, Missouri.

Independence police say they are investigating the crash that occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Monday.

A 2006 Chevrolet Impala was traveling southbound on MO-291 when it struck a center concrete sign support just south of Salisbury Road. The vehicle overturned and caught fire.

The 19-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger sustained fatal injuries. Police have identified them as Michael A. Smith, 17, of Independence, and Anthony R. Dunlap, 19, of Grain Valley. 

Two other passengers were transported to an area hospital and are expected to survive.
