The Kansas City Royals had a big reveal Monday – their new billboard and the theme for this year’s season.

The billboard shows catcher Salvador Pérez doing his signature Gatorade splash!

For the fourth year, the Royals partnered with local advertising firm, Walz Tetrick, and Outfront Media to create the billboard. The pressure has grown to do something bigger and better each year.

“So we had several different ideas on how we could crown the city or something like that,” Amanda Coleman, senior art director at Walz Tetrick, said. “We figured Salvy is the joyous part of the team, and people love his Gatorade splash. His Gatorade splash signified a win, so let’s make a billboard as big as possible that could splash the city.”

The idea was so grand they brought in a local set designer, Dave Connolly with Connolly Creative. He sketched out a design for the billboard after a meeting with the partners.

The billboard went up Monday morning at Southwest Trafficway and Westport Road.

The location was chosen because it’s closer to the ground so anyone can pose for pictures of Salvy giving them the famous splash!
