KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Lorenzo Cain, current Milwaukee Brewers outfielder and former Kansas City Royals outfielder, is the latest player to opt out of the 2020 season.

Cain was a part of the Royals' 2015 World Championship team.

The two-time All-Star announced his decision on the same day Miami Marlins second baseman Isan Diaz said he had opted out. At least 21 members of the Marlins' traveling party have tested positive for COVID-19.

Under a March agreement reached by MLB and the Players Association, high-risk players can opt out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 and still receive payment. Players who are not at high risk can also opt out but will surrender their 2020 salary and service time.

Cain was six for 18 with two RBIs in his first five games this season and batted .333. Last year, he batted .260 with 11 homers, 48 RBIs and 18 steals.
