A new professional football franchise is making its way to Kansas City.

The team will be playing in the Champions Indoor Football league for the upcoming 2017 season.

Approval for the team was just granted Thursday night and the owners still aren't sure where it will be playing. It also hasn't been named yet so the KC community will decide on the name and colors of the CIF franchise.

Kansas City Chief Will Shields, part owner of the new team, will be offering 68 Inside Sports' facilities for the athletes to train and practice throughout the year.

Dr. Ken Vehec, one of the team's owners, said, "We intend to bring a fan friendly, affordable product that is part of the community and a competitor on the field the City can be proud of. We looked at a number of markets and came to the conclusion this was the best fit for this brand of football with knowledgeable sports fans and a community that has shown it will support its local teams."

The official name and logo of the new team will be announced in October before tickets go on sale.

The team was announced at the "Will to Do It" Golf Tournament, an benefit for Shields' The Will To Succeed Foundation and Operation Breakthrough.
