Prairie Village police need your help finding thief burglarizing area cars

Going, going, gone. That was the trend Monday night in Prairie Village after police said a thief broke into cars near Nall from 75th to 79th Streets and stole all kinds of stuff from people's cars.

"Wallets, laptops, cash laying around, change, it's all over the board of what's been taken out of the vehicles," said Prairie Village Police Capt. Wes Lovett.

Police said she would've gotten away with it if not for one neighbor's surveillance camera.

Most of the times, they will go around from neighborhood to neighborhood shaking door handles to find out which cars are unlocked.

Here's how it works - shysters will case a neighborhood walking around looking for unlocked cars. Once they find one, they're in, often times stealing everything from loose change to electronics. Before you know it, they and your items are gone.

In all, the thief in the night broke into nine cars. So, police are asking you to do two things - first, if you've seen this person - contact them. And second, lock your car doors so you don't become a victim of a preventable crime.

If you can identify this person or have any information on these incidents, please contact the PVPD at 913-642-5151, or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-8477.
