KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Happy 816 Day, Kansas City!
The informal holiday celebrating all things KCMO falls on Aug. 16, or 8/16, the numbers of one of the region’s area codes.
Several businesses and attractions are commemorating the day with special events and deals. Here are a few 41 Action News found:
- The Kansas City Library Coffee Shop is offering one ceramic mug (filled with coffee) and a pastry item for $8.16, or a small cup of coffee for $0.82 (81.6 cents rounded up). Visitors can also take part in a scavenger hunt to win coffee, a T-shirt, or a library cold cup. They’re also encouraged to write a nice note about the library to get a coupon for a free cup of coffee, in honor of the Dewey number 816.
- Attend a free concert hosted by the KC Streetcar and City Market. Hop on the streetcar for a ride to market and be treated to unique art. In the market, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., find music, food, drinks, shopping and games.
- Party Kansas City style at John’s Big Deck with a DJ, photo booth and prizes including concert tickets to several upcoming concerts and a 4-hour party bus package from ARC Transportation. The event, free and open to those 21 years old and up, is sponsored by several organizations.
- Get a tour of the city and its history on a River City Mafia Tour from the Kansas City Tour Company. Riders will learn more about how the Mafia flourished in Kansas City during a trip starting at 3rd and Grand. Advanced purchase is required.
