Get your bets in, the Kentucky Derby is this Saturday! Executive Chef Kevin Nicholls and Kelsey Shelton, Bartender from Parker at The Fontaine, take over our kitchen for a tasty preview.

  • Parker at The Fontaine is hosting a Derby Viewing party May 5th where guests can watch the races and enjoy derby themed bites and cocktails
  • Come dressed to impress! Parker will be giving out several prizes for Best Hat, Best Bowtie, Best Dressed, and Most Creative.
  • Chef Kevin shows us how to make pimento cheese grits and bartender Kelsey Shelton shows us a creative twist on the Mint Julep- “Black Beauty”

 

Drink Recipe: Mint Julep – “Black Beauty”

  • 3oz Rose-Infused Bourbon
  • 1oz Blackberry Mint Simple Syrup
  • 4 Mint Leaves

Garnish: 1 Blackberry, Mint Spring, Powdered Sugar

 

Pimento Cheese Grits:

Ingredients:

  • Cream ¼ qt
  • Water ¼ qt
  • Milk, whole ¼ qt
  • Grated Cheddar 1 cup
  • Grits, Coarse 6 oz
  • Butter 1 stick
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Paprika 1 tsp
  • Pimento, chopped 4 tbsp

Directions:

1. In a large sauce pot, bring the cream, water and milk to a simmer

2. Slowly whisk in the grits

3. Simmer until the grits are tender, then add the remaining ingredients

4. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary
