SHAWNEE, Kan. — Kansas Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Kris Kobach smiled and waved from an American flag painted jeep in Saturday’s Old Shawnee Days Parade.
Mounted on the back, a replica gun.
In a tweet, Kobach said, “Those who want to restrict the right to keep and bear arms are deeply misguided. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”
Had a blast riding in the Old Shawnee Days Parade in this souped up jeep with a replica gun. Those who want to restrict the right to keep and bear arms are deeply misguided. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. #ksleg #ksgov #TeamKobach pic.twitter.com/ZULBEYTqUW

Several people expressed their unhappiness with the display on social media.
You are misguided thinking Kansas wants you to remain in office let alone leading this State. I support the 2nd Amendment but I support stricter gun laws. Kids should not be scared to go to school. People should not have to prove their status due to skin color.

The City of Shawnee issued an apology, which read in part:
“Please know that the safety of our residents is always our highest priority and we apologize if this made anyone feel unsafe or unsettled. We will be taking steps in the future to try to ensure something similar does not happen again.”
