Sometimes people who do the same workouts everyday need to stop and try something new.
I decided to set aside my treadmill and workout videos and do something I’ve always wanted to try. So, I called the Kansas City Fencing Center in Shawnee, Kan.
Kelly Williams is the Executive Director and Head Coach at the center.
“Fencing is a well-kept secret in Kansas City; but it’s actually quite popular,” Williams explained. “We have people in class from ages 6 to 60.”
Williams said that fencing is an excellent physical workout and mental exercise.
I discovered after a few beginning exercises that I was holding the sword, lunging and getting a total body workout from my biceps to my hamstrings and quads. I was constantly in motion, so I was getting a great cardio workout, too.
It was so much fun I didn’t even realize how hard I was exercising.
