It has been 50 years since Walt Disney died.

- Walt moved from Marceline, Missouri to Kansas City in 1911. His first animation studio was in KC and called Laugh-O-Gram.
- He did the voice of Mickey Mouse himself from 1928-1947.
- He was a pioneer for kid’s TV, with shows like "Zorro," "Davy Crockett" and "The Mickey Mouse Club."
- No one except for Walt believed that a feature-length Snow White would do well. It ended up earning more than $8 million (~$130 million today) during its original release.
- He received 22 Academy Awards and was nominated 59 times between 1932 and 1969.
- His favorite character was Goofy.
- Walt also produced animated war propaganda films and training videos for the United States military.
- The last film Walt personally oversaw was "The Jungle Book," before his death from lung cancer in 1966.
- The character Wall-E was named after Walt himself!
- When Walt died, 25 percent of his estate went to CalArts, helping the private university build up its campus.
