Banneker Charter Academy of Technology students are anxious to get a new gym for their workouts

I had a great time working out with students at Banneker Charter Academy of Technology.

They don't have a school gym so we exercised in the parking lot. I was glad to see that a favorite recess game when I was a child is still alive and well. We played the red light, green light game.

Banneker Charter Academy of Technology is raising money to build a multipurpose center and gym.

Students typically exercise outside if the weather is good, and teachers make alternate indoor plans when the weather is bad.

The Holly and Ivy Holiday Breakfast and Gala on December 3 at 9 a.m. at the Hillcrest Country Club will raise the necessary money to begin construction on the school's first multipurpose center and gym. Tickets are $50. They can be purchased at Banneker Charter Academy of Technology, 6401 Rockhill Road in Kansas City, Missouri.

This year's special guest for the gala is Victoria Rowell, the acclaimed actress and author. Rowell is well known for her film and television roles in "Diagnosis Murder," and "The Young and the Restless."

For nearly 20 years Benjamin Banneker Charter Academy of Technology has served children and adolescent youth in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri. The academy has reached hundreds of young people in an environment that stimulates academic growth through the use of millennial technology. The urban-focused school is committed to high academic outcomes for each student. High standards for social, physical, and intellectual development are maintained which allows children to experience success in a secure, challenging, and exciting setting.
