Celebrating Valentine's Day with Russell Stover

Posted

Okay, you wake up and realize it’s the big day for sweethearts! The day you show and tell your significant other why he or she makes your life complete!

Then, you realize: “Aargh! Sure, I can ‘tell’ but I’d better have something to ‘show!’”

Have no fear Russell Stover is here!

For 85 years, the fine folks at Kansas City’s own Russell Stover have been making sweets for the sweet, including all the goodies in that iconic heart-shaped box.

(So iconic that the box even popped up on Saturday Night Live last week!)

Clara Stover, Russell’s wife, actually started the company. She happened to see heart-shaped boxes on a trip to Europe. Clara brought the idea home so the rest of us can bring it home, too.

As popular as that classic is, the biggest seller this time of the year, according to Christi Jones of Russell Stover, is hand-dipped strawberries!

Some 50,000 berries take the chocolate bath in the KC stores every Valentine’s Day season.

The Russell Stover store in Merriam makes it especially easy to play Cupid with a drive-through window.

Just don’t take this “playing Cupid” thing too literally. If you show up with a bow and arrow, wearing a large diaper, it may slow down the line.

Don’t ask me how I know that.
