Time running out for holiday shipping

Be nice to your mail carrier today, because today is one of their busiest days.

The United States Postal Service expects to deliver 30 million packages, and 15 billion pieces of mail by New Year's Eve.

USPS quotes a 15 percent increase in package deliveries this year, but Kansas City postal worker Greg Spencer says he thinks it's more than that.

"It seems like we have double and triple the packages we normally have, it's incredible," he said.

The holiday season is the peak of the year, and the USPS has made some changes to accommodate the influx.

Spencer says they've hired more people.  He's also equipped with a new scanner that lets the customer and the mail carrier track packages more accurately.

"I think people finally trust us and know we're going to do the job right," Spencer said.  "People feel more confident to know where we're at, where the parcels are at, and we're doing a good job."

Dec. 21 is the last day to send Priority Mail to get to its destination by Christmas. Dec. 23 is the deadline for Priority Mail Express.

If you're a huge procrastinator, Wednesday is the last day for Priority Mail Express.  Some of those packages may even be delivered on Christmas Day.
