Time is running out to ship your Christmas packages

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  – If you haven’t sent your Christmas gift in the mail yet, time is running out.

Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, the United States Postal Service will ship 850 million packages.

Dec. 19 and 20 are the last two days you can mail your package and have it guaranteed to arrive at its destination by Christmas.

“We welcome it all – cards, letters, flats, packages – you name it we welcome it. This is our season. We’ve prepared for it. We prepare for it all year,” Kansas City Postmaster Eddie Morgan said.

Morgan said from mid-December until Christmas, virtually all of their offices will have long lines at times.

“We don’t do too much differently. Basically, what we do is make sure our staffing compliments the workload,” Morgan said.

Morgan had a few tips if you are sending a last-minute gift.

“Make sure your box is sealed. Make sure it is wrapped properly. Bring it up to the counter and we will be glad to serve you and make sure it gets to your destination,” he said.
